5 Reasons To Choose a Holiday Cottage in Betws-y-Coed

Betws-y-Coed holiday cottages are now enjoying increased occupancy, spreading far beyond the “peak” season, and out into the shoulder months. Why?

1.Betws-y-Coed is the official “Gateway to Snowdonia” for visitors to North Wales and the Snowdonia National Park.

With the rise of the “stay-cation”, more people are taking shorter weekend breaks throughout the year, not just during peak seasons. As time is at a premium, guests do not want to travel more than two hours on a Friday night to start their weekend. This means that any holiday cottage within a two-hour drive of a large city is going to have a steady flow of “long weekenders” throughout the year.

Betws-y-Coed is just 1 hour from Chester, 90 minutes from Liverpool, 90 mins from Manchester Airport for International guests and under 2 hours from Manchester City Centre.

We are just 90 minutes from Shrewsbury and around 2 hours from Birmingham and Wolverhampton.

Add to that the soaring cost of fuel, and you can see how arriving at your holiday cottage on a Friday night by 8.00 p.m. to relax and start your weekend is an attractive proposition.

2.Beaches, Lakes, Crystal Clear Rivers.

In a recent survey, 52% of holiday makers said that the number one priority for their choice of holiday was to be close to a beach. Families, couples, watersports fanatics, birdwatchers, walkers, and just about everybody loves to be beside the seaside!

The nearest beach is just a 25 minute drive to Conwy or Llandudno or a 35 minute drive to Black Rock Sands near Porthmadog.

Around the village there are beautiful lakes for watersport activities, crystal clear rivers for paddling and swimming that are equipped with picnic tables and seating for enjoying a packed lunch or barbecue.

Meanwhile, at either West Shore beach LLandudno or Black Rock Sands Beach, kite buggy and Kite surfing enthusiasts use the beach more in the winter months than in the summer.

3. A year round programme of events.

Betws-y-Coed has year round Sports, Arts and Cultural events within the village, and a wealth of activities and outdoor adventures amid the stunning backdrop of the Snowdonia Mountain Range.

Walking, Climbing, Mountain Biking, Canoeing & Kayaking, Orienteering, Coasteering, Tree Tops adventures and GoBelow underground cavern exploration are all available from within the village.

Snowdonia Arts Festival, Snowdonia Walking Festival and BetwsChristmas are just three of the many annual events held within the village.

Walk down Betws-y-Coed`s picturesque High Street on any day of the year and you will hear traditional Welsh, Americans, French, Eastern European, German, and Dutch being spoken. It’s a tourist magnet all year round!

4. Fine dining options.

Holiday lets have definitely needed to go more upmarket in recent times, to cater to a more discerning guest who requires accommodation to the standard of a boutique hotel.

Take a peek at : www.holidaycottageinbetwsycoed.co.uk a 17th Century former Coaching Inn offering 5 bedrooms to sleep 11 with 3 bathrooms. The property has been recently renovated and extended and is superbly located in a quiet sunny position just a few minutes walk into the village centre.

These same guests are interested in fine dining, and will want to book accommodation in an area where there is a choice of high-class eateries.

Betws-y-Coed has a wealth of fine dining eateries from friendly Bistro to elegant Hotel Restaurants and Gastro pub type bars, serving excellent food throughout the day and evening.

The village has Artisan Bakeries, Delicatessen and Cafe`s, for more casual eating when just a snack is required.

5. Weather

We all know the weather in the U.K. can be unpredictable to say the least. However,  North Wales enjoys sunshine and a moderate amount of rain, the temperature can be milder than other parts of the U.K. thanks to the influence of the Gulf Stream off our western coast.

Even in the most inclement weather Betws-y-Coed has activities and culture to entertain and amuse whatever the weather has in store.

So, if you are looking to maximise the return from your holiday let, the signposts are there to direct you to extended occupancy.  Put yourself in the mind of your potential guests, and if you can see what they want, then you know what to provide and where to provide it to meet their needs. Understanding who your guest is, is the key to a successful and sustained relationship.

  1. We personally have a static caravan in Prenteg and it’s a perfect place to go and explore Betws-y-Coed. I had heard of Bodlondeb Cottage from a friend and they highly recommend it.
